My Failed Plans

This morning I woke up at 6 AM with a wonderful plan.  The rooster, Mr. C was singing us a morning song, and I was ready for all that I had planned out for the day.

God, I think, was laughing.

First, our English Mastiff, Cinnamon had an explosive stomach not just once, but twice.  Try cleaning that up at 6:30 AM when all you wanted to do was go for a run.

Plan 1 fail: my 4 mile run turned into a quick 20 minutes on the elliptical.

Today is my sister's 33rd birthday.  She was on her way to my house to go to Lake Michigan with us and I was going to have pancakes and sausage ready for her when she got to the house.

That plan did happen, but she was late, because.....

Plan 2 fail: bologne for sandwhiches to bring with us was rotten so Jamie had to go to the store to buy us lunch meat.

Because she was late, the pancakes were cold and the sausages overcooked. Sigh...

To help save money, we filled up water bottles with sweet tea and koolaid.  While filling up my bottle, I poured sweet tea all over the freshly cleaned counter.  Sigh again.

By this time, I am NOT in a good mood.  The kids, of course, are arguing, which is just fueling my grumpiness.  After threatening to leave them home with a baby sitter and Jamie, Carlos and me going to the beach without them, the arguing stopped.

All the animals were fed, in the kennels, the car was loaded and we were ready to roll.  Except- where is the portable DVD player I asked hubby to leave for us?

Plan 3 fail: getting to the beach by 10:30 AM.  Had to make a stop in Kalamazoo to pick up the DVD player from hubby who forgot to leave it for us.  I am glad we stopped, though, it REALLY helps the kids to forget how boring longer (more the 10 minute) car rides can be.

Now we are safely at Warren Dunes staring up at the big mountain of sand.
This picture is a true reflection as to how bright it was today.  The sand was cooking our toes under the 100 degree sun.

In my mind, I was going to kick the kid's butt RUNNING up that little sand hill.

Ok, I hear you laughing from here.  You can stop now. :-)

How I am still smiling is beyond me.  I totally about threw up after crawling my way up that monsterous mountain.  If you look closely, you can see the sweat on my forhead and it dripping from my chin.

After a nice restful break under some trees, the kids took off running down the hill.  I sort of skipped.  WOW!  The trip down was SO much easier.

I love this picture of Carlos as he is taking off to run down the hill.

Safely at the bottom, Aunt Jamie is waiting patiently for us (not covered in sweat and sand like we were.)

Now, it is time to add some water into the equation.

I think I am getting older, because I do not remember swimming in water this cold before.  It was so cold, I told the kids to get out for a while because I thought they would get hypothermia.  (yeah, I'm a dork, but I'm a dork with kids who don't have hypothermia.)

After swimming, it was snack time.  Because it is my sister's birthday, I made her a brownie cake and Alyssa decorated it.  Which leads us to:

Plan 4 and 5 fail: I forgot a knife and forks to eat the cake with and I accidently put two bags of chips ontop of the cake which squashed Alyssa's decorations.

The kids enjoyed this fail though as they were able to eat the cake with their hands.  Chocolate was EVERYWHERE!  Good thing they had a large lake to rince off in.

After some time playing in the sand, it was time to burry the kids.

We spent about 3 hours at the lake and had an amazing time.  On our way home, we stopped and played 18 holes of miniature golf.  It was so fun to watch the kids cheer eachother on.  It made my Mommy's heart melt.

I hope my sister had a great birthday and enjoys her new rabbit from us.  If you have kids, I truly hope you have someone in your life like my sister who is able to step in and help when needed and be an awesome friend.  Love you Jamie.

Now we are home and resting and ready for a long good night of sleep.

All in all, for a day that went nothing like how I planned, it was pretty perfect.
