I have been thinking, I know, scary, right?
Here is what I have been thinking.....
I love shopping for deals...we are on a budget and only have so much money to spend at Christmas time for our children.
I also love spending time with family during the holidays.
Sometimes, we have to travel on a holiday to get to see family. While traveling, we need to stop to eat and fill up the vehicle with fuel.
There are people who are working at those places to allow me to travel during this time. Yet there are not the facebook and twitter postings about not filling up vehicles or not eating out on Thanksgiving... just for not shopping.
Don't the employees at gas stations, fast food and Chinese restaurants deserve to have the day off as well?
Where are their protesters in all of this?
How about those in the medical field? Shouldn't hospital staff, doctors, nurses, firer fighters, police officers, and EMTs have the day off as well to be with their families?
I don't see people protesting against them working.
Why not? It's not like the economy will collapse if everyone has the day off, will it?
The whole idea of these important jobs of having the same day off at once is simply ridiculous, right? These people need to be working to help to keep us safe, protected, and on the mends. They need to be there to run our credit card when we are doing one more pit stop before visiting family out of town. Those pit stops are life savers when you have cranky kids.
So instead of protesting them all from working, why not thank them for working.
I did that last year as I was among the Walmart masses on Thanksgiving Day (gasp) buying the ENTIRE Harry Potter series for less than $25. You would have been amazed how the cashier lit up when I told her that I genuinely appreciate the sacrifice she is making so that I can get a kick ass deal and stay within my budget.
Perhaps leave them a gift card for a restaurant or a massage, or buy them some doughnuts or a coffee as a thank you.
Will I be shopping this Thanksgiving? I'm not sure yet, but I am sure that I am grateful for those who are working to allow me the opportunity to save some money if I want to.
That is all my thoughts were.
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and remember to thank people in your life and those you pass by when you are out and about.
